Hello world! Welcome back to another blog. In this blog I will be taking you through my experience of when I performed in a showcase called “Let’s Celebrate”. Here is how I prepared for it and what happened on the night itself.

Initial Application:
I came across this job as a friend from the Actors Workshop Nottingham shared it on his social media. Because I couldn’t do another job at the time, I signed up for it on a whim, not thinking about if I got in or not, but more about getting some experience and developing my skills. Whilst I was pleased to get in I wasn’t expecting it also. But I decided to bite the bullet and take it on, knowing that it might actually be really good (which it was!).

Rehearsal Process:
Throughout the process I thought about many ways I can develop the piece I was performing, including how to drag it out abit. But I’ll be honest, I did have abit of imposter syndrome, and even considered changing my piece. However the host reassured me that what I submitted was nice, and that I had to remember I was picked for a reason. Eventually I found my way of adapting it whilst also keeping it at a reasonable time. Not too short and not too long either. Just right!
Promoting the Performance:
Even though our job was to practice, it was also our job to spread the news far and wide. This was not my strongest point, but I at least shared it on my Instagram story and in some group chats I’m a part of. That for me is a win. I also recorded a little teaser for my performance, which was also a win for me.
Performance:
On the night itself it actually went better than expected. It took me a while to settle because of my social anxiety (partly for the autistic side of me coming out), but I soon settled in. I even met a fellow creative who knew my friend from the actors workshop, so at least I had a fellow actor on side. Obviously I was nervous to begin with, but once I got on the stage I just had the time of my life. Downsides:
I guess the only downside that I had was that I couldn’t stay for the rest of the event. This was due to being up at 5am the next morning, so I knew I had to be up bright and early. But the host was very understanding, and I’m sure she knew that I wasn’t the only one as well which was lovely. But I’ve seen snippets of the rest of the acts on social media, and wow they look amazing! Everyone should be really proud of themselves!

And that is it for this blog on the showcase celebrating amazing talent. Click the link below to see a mini vlog of highlights of the night itself!
